Minna Sundberg has produced a really detailed infographic that expresses how all languages come from a couple of groups. We explain below a little about this incredible tree.

The Finnish language
The first thing we notice is that Finnish comes from the family of the Uralic language and shares roots with some indigenous languages in Scandinavia like Sami, despite their geographical distance.

Europe
In addition one can notice that many of the ancient languages of Great Britain are united. Likewise, we can see that the whole of Europe is united through Slavic, Romance and Germanic branches.

The size of the leaves
Also, according to the author, the size of the leaves of the tree indicates the number of people who speak the language. So we can see then how English has a lot of space occupied by leaves. And it also shows how English comes from Germanic, like German.

Connections
Finally, we can see connections between Hindi and Urdu.

About the author
