The Conjuring Universe Has Become The Second-Most Successful Cinematic Universe In Hollywood

The Conjuring Universe Second-Most Successful Cinematic Universe

If you’re a fan of horror movies, you have no doubt come across the Warrens and their spooky world. James Wan, creator of ‘The Conjuring’ universe, said he never planned for it to become the second-most successful cinematic universe in Hollywood. After releasing Annabel, he realized that “The Conjuring could become the mothership to spawn other stories.” The Conjuring Universe is actually being dubbed horrors MCU. Here’s what we know about how it got there:

The Conjuring Universe and James Wan:

Based on the cases of the late Ed and Lorraine Warren, a pair of real-life paranormal investigators (and self-acclaimed demonologists), ‘The Conjuring’ universe has gained traction and a continuously growing fanbase since the franchise’s first film ‘The Conjuring’ came out in theaters in 2013. After an immediate box office success, Wan came back for ‘The Conjuring 2’, releasing in 2016. The franchise’s third film came out recently in 2021 titled ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.’ In between this Wan has also produced all ‘The Conjuring’ universe spin-off films including ‘Anabelle’ in 2014, 2017’s ‘Annabelle: Creation’, 2018’s ‘The Nun’, ‘The Curse of La Llorona’ and ‘Annabelle Comes Home’ both in 2019.

“It happened organically, but in the back of our minds, we always knew that the Warrens investigated so many different cases and that they had a museum of haunted artifacts. So, even while working on the first movie, we would spitball ideas, like, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we could do a spinoff movie or a TV series where we touch on the different haunted artifacts in their museum?’ And that was really how the idea for Annabelle (2014) came about… Anabelle is the crown jewel of the Warrens’ collection”

What’s next?

A fourth main series Conjuring film is in the works titled ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ which is still lacking a director and a release date. All we can expect right now is to see Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson back once again in their original roles as the Warrens. Later this year on September 8, a sequel to The Nun is also coming out. It’s simply titled ‘The Nun 2’ and is being directed by Michael Chaves.
