Everyone saw it coming. While it will continue to be the cheapest streaming service when compared to other services, Paramount has decided to raise the overall price. This coincides with the addition of the Showtime catalogue to the Paramount+ viewing experience. Not only that, but this marks a significant shift for the company, with a greater emphasis on original shows and films.

When it comes to Paramount+, which includes Showtime, the price has risen from $9.99 to $11.99, while the other plan, dubbed the “Essential,” will see its price rise from $4.99 to $5.99. The company’s pricing plans are still quite competitive, especially when compared to Netflix, which charges $15.49 for an ad-free experience and $6.99 for an ad-tier one.

Showtime and Paramount will undergo significant rebranding in the near future.

From Yellowjackets to Your Honor, Showtime is home to big, premium, sophisticated series which will now be complemented with broad, blockbuster originals and movies in the alignment of Paramount+ with Showtime. Together, Paramount+ with Showtime will provide our consumers a much more rewarding experience with our vast set of unique originals and deep library of iconic shows and hit films.

Chris McCarthy, President & CEO Showtime

This consolidation began in January, and the Showtime app will be permanently shut down at the end of 2023.

This summer, Paramount+ will officially become the streaming home for Showtime, further advancing our lead in being the total household service. By integrating the Showtime premium and critically acclaimed portfolio with the service’s already broad and popular slate, all at a competitive price, we will solidify Paramount+ as a cornerstone in streaming.
