We all love our Disney movies but outside of our beloved Disney world, there’s a plethora of rich and interesting movies that have characters that can strum the strings of your hearts.
Here’s a list of some of the best animated Non-Disney movies that we highly recommend.
1. The Secret of Nimh
A fieldmouse named Mrs. Brisby must move her family to a safe location before the farmer plows the field where they live, but her invalid son Timmy cannot go outside due to his pneumonia. She enlists the aid of some highly intelligent, escaped lab rats that have built a subterranean society inside a rose bush near the farmer’s garden. The rats, led by the wise Nicodemus, decide to help her physically move her house to repay a debt of gratitude to her late husband, who made possible the rats’ escape from the laboratory. But things become complicated when some of the rats decide to use the situation to kill Nicodemus and make it appear to be accidental.
A girl no bigger than her mother’s thumb feels all alone in the world knowing she is the only person her size. Her wish for a companion at last comes true when the prince of the fairy’s arrives at her window sill. However, the naive Thumbelina’s life goes downward from there when a toad kidnaps her. While she tries to find a way home, she begins to grow up and learns about hope with the help of the friends she always wanted.
3. The Boy and the Beast
When a young orphaned boy, living on the streets of Shibuya, stumbles upon a fantastic world of beasts, he’s taken in by a gruff warrior beast looking for an apprentice.
As the human city development encroaches on the raccoon population’s forest and meadow habitat, the raccoons find themselves faced with the very real possibility of extinction. In response, the raccoons engage in a desperate struggle to stop the construction and preserve their home.
5. The Suicide Shop
In a French city, where life is difficult due to a high cost of living, the suicide rate is really high. Only one family is wealthy: The Tuvaches – owners of ‘The Suicide Shop’ – where you can find everything necessary to easily pass in your own home. Business is great until Lucrèce Tuvache gives birth to her third born, Alan: From when he was a baby, he can’t help but smile, and once a grown up, he still keeps this daily happiness, conversely from the rest of his family.
6. Song of the Sea
Song of the Sea follows the story of a 10-year-old Irish boy named Ben who discovers that his mute sister Saoirse, whom he blames for the apparent death of his mother, is a selkie who has to free faerie creatures from the Celtic goddess Macha.
7. Mune, Guardian of the Moon
When a faun named Mune becomes the Guardian of the Moon, little did he had unprepared experience with the Moon and an accident that could put both the Moon and the Sun in danger, including a corrupt titan named Necross who wants the Sun for himself and placing the balance of night and day in great peril. Now with the help of a wax-child named Glim and the warrior, Sohone who also became the Sun Guardian, they go out on an exciting journey to get the Sun back and restore the Moon to their rightful place in the sky.
8. Children Who Chase Lost Voices
A coming-of-age story involving young love and a mysterious music, coming from a crystal radio left as a memento by an absent father, that leads a young heroine deep into a hidden world.
