Kit Harington Returns to Television in the First Trailer for “Gunpowder”

Jon Snow may have sailed to the farther lands as the finale of Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” showed us, but Kit Harington is going nowhere. He will be returning to the television with “Gunpowder”, a series set in 1605. It chronicles the ‘Gunpowder Plot’ and stars him as the mastermind of the same, Robert Catesby. If that name sounds familiar, it is because Fawkes is the anti-hero of the extremely popular graphic novel series, “V for Vendetta” by Alan Moore and the eponymous movie. In real life, Fawkes was captured by a nobleman of the court before he could set fire to the gunpowder. To this day however, November 5 is celebrated as the “Guy Fawkes Day” in England.

Harington developed the series with Daniel West and Ronan Bennett. What’s interesting is that Harington is a direct descendant of Robert Catesby from his mother’s side.

The series is stacked with a talented cast that includes Peter Mullan (“Children of Men”, “Harry Potter Series”) who will play Father Henry Garnet, a co-conspirator; Liv Tyler (“The Lord of the Rings Series”) will play Anne Vaux, a wealthy woman who gave living quarters to Garnet and other Catholic priests in a time when practising Catholicism was prohibited; and Mark Gatiss (“Sherlock”) will also star as Sir Robert Cecil, the nobleman who uncovered the plot.
