Ellie’s Death In “Up!” Just Became Sadder! Here’s How!

2009’s Up is one of the most beautiful movies of all time. Period. Yes, you read that right. The movie is not just one of the best animated movies of all time but also (we repeat) ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME!

But it begins with perhaps THE most heart-breaking sequence of all time with the story of Carl and Ellie encapsulated in a montage that is at once moving as it is heartfelt and which ultimately tugs at the strings of our hearts in such a delicate way that instantly has us rooting for Carl, even though for the remainder of the movie he may come across as a curmudgeon.

Which brings us to the death of Ellie.

The moment had us crying and weeping and wondering why on earth would anyone think of putting a death of such a lovely character in the opening minutes of the movie itself but then again, it speaks volumes about the creative team at Pixar and their ability to make us root for a character that we barely knew for five minutes!

So, as it turns out, Pixar has revealed that there is a reason the death of Ellie hits us like a ton of bricks every time we watch it.

And the reason is the Color Pink!
